Our client, wishing to retire to the idyllic Pennsylvania countryside, asked us to restore his beautiful bank barn and prepare it to support his cattle operations.

The barn as it appeared in February of 2010.  Its outwardly sound appearance hid considerable frame deterioration.

A modification for modern uses:  This heavy carrying beam allows equipment to pass deeper into the barn for hay storage.

Replacement timbers are joined to originals using the traditional joinery.  Steel straps at unions show where existing joinery has been supplemented to resist tension loads.

We added 2x8 oak bump rails to the interior face of the framing to protect the siding from damage from large hay bales.
